Photo of the week

The blog has been somewhat quiet recently, mostly due to the impending arrival of our baby (working name Squiggle) and the subsequent arrival of Squiggle. Once we found out that my wife was pregnant I wanted to capture the progress of the pregnancy, and the growth of Squiggle from the outside. Here is the resulting time lapse video showing the 38 week pregnancy which was cut short by the arrival of our daughter Sasha. Note that the 38 week photograph was a bit of a rush job as my wife was in the early stages of labour at that point. To me it was interesting how the growth wasn’t consistent, but had growth spurts.
The photographs were taken with a two speedlight set up, both in shoot through umbrellas. We decided to take the photographs on location along various trips to act as a reminder of what we were doing at the time even at the cost of consistency. We found that at times this project was difficult because it was hard to get time to set everything up each week and just getting around to taking the photographs required, especially when Katie didn’t feel well. In the end we both found it to be worthwhile though and I encourage others to do it as well. We’ll do it again with our next child, with a few improvements of course.
