Photo of the week
Here are some of the photographs from my recent track day put on by The Formula Company. For the most part the drivers were getting used to the cars and learning the lines around the track. Although a couple of times there were a few passes and even spins. One of the cars came into the pits with a bit of smoke as well just to make it a bit more interesting. As with previous track days I moved around the circuit a fair bit to try to get some different angles and perspectives. Using mostly slower shutter speeds I focused on getting some slow panning shots, although just to change it up a bit I did take some fast shots to freeze the action.
Fast shutter speeds are a tempting way to shoot motor sport because of the fast movements of the cars. Often though they can lead to boring looking photographs without movement because the wheels are stopped and it often looks like the car is parked on track. That’s why I generally reserve them for the pits and for head on/directly behind photographs.
