For a while now I have been wanting to improve my architectural photography, so whenever we go on holiday I try to take photographs of the hotels which tend to be very picturesque. Below are a couple of photographs from The Ramada Resort in Port Douglas. The resort has a fantastic swimming pool and gardens which I tried to capture at twilight.
I quite like photographing buildings and gardens at twilight because I find the contrast between the blue ambient light and orange tungsten lights quite pleasing. It really helps create a natural versus man made contrast. One thing that I’m not a huge fan of though are the fluorescent lights in general, but sometimes I don’t mind them as in the garden photograph below where it highlights the green of the leaves.
