Paris is a city rich in history, but it is also a modern 21st century city that has something for all the senses. As such there are some aspects of it better captured in colour.
With today's digital cameras it is simple to decide whether a photograph is colour or monochrome after it has been captured. Having said that, it is still very important to pre-visualise how you want to capture the photograph because colour is one element that will either add or detract from the final photograph. To me Paris is a timeless city, and as such it feels like it should be captured in black and white, preferably on film. Consequently, all of these photographs were shot on good old fashioned Kodak Tri-X 400 film. Still an excellent film and to me it highlights the character of the city well.
I really enjoy photographing the people in Paris because they are just so Parisian. I know that sounds a bit circular and obvious, but the Parisians have a certain flare and character that is quite unique to them, kind of like New Yorkers but different.
