Photo of the week
Visiting Siem Reap in Cambodia was a wonderful experience which I recommend to anyone who hasn’t been. The people are wonderful and the sights are amazing. Take these photographs of Angkor Wat which don’t do the temple justice as a whole. The rain made it even more interesting because it showed some of the design features of the temple including the way four of the big pools on the lower level of the temple began to fill with water.
I believe that a person can spend weeks or even months exploring the various hallways and rooms taking in all of the wonderful details. One of the interesting things about the temple is how it has changed when it was owned by Buddhists, Hindus and now tourists. As a reminder the temple still shows signs of the bitter battles between Khmer Rouge and the people trying to fight against them. Some of the signs include bullet holes and big holes from rocket propelled grenades (RPGs) used against those hiding with its walls. Nonetheless, it is the simple beauty of the writing and storytelling that makes the temple such a wonder.
