Photo of the week
Recently I had an opportunity to tour and photograph the Balmain Shipyard which is the maintenance facility for Sydney Ferries. It is one of the few remaining working shipyards in Sydney Harbour and is personally exciting to visit due to my close ties with the ferries. I had an opportunity to see the berthing places for the ferries along with the dry dock where maintenance takes place. I also got to see some of the parts for the ferries including the propellers and engines. Big thank you to everyone involved in making this tour happen. Below are some of the photographs from the tour including some of the vessels and the near by Balmain Thames St Wharf.
I really enjoyed looking at the vessels and equipment, but I enjoyed talking to the mechanics there even more. It was really pleasant to talk to them about the work they did and the different components they worked on. Reminded me of my days as a bus mechanic and how good it was to work with my hands.
The photographs are fairly simple standard type of settings using natural light. I got lucky in that there was a pretty thick cloud layer so the light was very even and highlighted the colours of everything quite nicely.
